Aetna is the direct descendant of Aetna Insurance Company, of Hartford, Connecticut, which issued its first life insurance policy in 1850.

Aetna offers Medicare Plans A, B, C (only in Texas), and F in 12 states.

Aetna also offers Medicare Advantage plans in certain states and Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage in all 50 states.
