United Healthcare - through AARP
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AARP
AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, is a United States-based non-government organization (a special interest group). According to its mission statement, it is "a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and over ... dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age," which "provides a wide range of unique benefits, special products, and services for our members." AARP operates as a non-profit advocate for its members, one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States, and also sells insurance, investment funds and other financial products. AARP claims over 38 million members, making it one of the largest membership organizations for people age 50 and over in the United States.
In order to offer its association members Medicare Supplements, AARP has partnered with United Healthcare to offer all plans – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H. I, J, K, and L, and a Select Plan C. In many states, AARP has a community rating meaning that they do not consider age, gender, tobacco usage, or geographic location in the state, to determine premiums for their various plans. All persons get the same premium rate for a particular plan. This can be of benefit as you age since they do not have age-related rate increases. At the same time if you are younger the premium for a plan can be higher than those of other companies. Another benefit of AARP/United Healthcare’s offering is that the only medical question they consider (outside of guaranteed issue periods) is if an applicant has “end-stage renal disease. This could allow for guaranteed issue coverage in many situations. |
